My Lesotho Travel diary

12 September 2017

I have been to Lesotho many times before for work but I have never had as much fun visiting and working as I did this time around and thought I should share briefly about my experiences.  Lesotho is a beautiful country within Southern Africa. It is an hour flight and 5 – 6 hours’ drive away (I have done both). It is a very culture and resource (diamonds & water) rich country with an amazing history, great economic potential as well as warm and friendly people. The people are humble and very respectful, and upon addressing anyone they add Mme’ and Ntate as a pre-fix to your name which means Mr. or Mam respectively (or mother & father), this obviously took some getting used to but once I understood that it was as a sign of respect and accepted it, I immersed myself into their culture. They also have a King who rules and governs the land and looks after his people who love and embrace him.

One of my favourite things about Lesotho is their food, their restaurants serve the most divine foods I have ever tasted! And if you ever plan on going there a few places I recommend to look out for are Lancers Inn, which serves great traditional type food, it’s also a hotel and has great wifi, then there is The Regal which serves some of the best Indian cuisine. The 3rd Place I have visited is Phiri Phiri, which is a Portuguese restaurant well known for its amazing seafood as well as its signature Chilli! Hence the name Phiri Phiri which is alike to Peri-Peri or hot chilli. Another great restaurant is a Chinese restaurant (the name of which I cant remember) situated at the Avani Lesotho Sun hotel which serves great fried Chinese dishes in generous portions that can be shared amongst a round table. The last and probably my new go-to restaurant is the Mpilo Boutique hotel restaurant, this place is amazing! Its beautifully decorated with modern furnishes, the service is on point from the moment you walk in, the ambience and most importantly the food! Oh my Gosh! I am rarely speechless! It’s the type of place where you eat and no one says a word all you hear is ‘mmmh mmmh’ and you just appreciate the fine dining, definitely the kind of place you need after a busy day filled with client meetings and presentations.

I really enjoyed my stay my stay, and working a company such as Microsoft allows me to explore and see places I dream of going to, I am blessed to have travelled to and stayed in places such as US (Altanta & Seattle), Prague in Czech Republic and India. I would still love to travel some more, and these are the types of trips that also make you want to travel throughout Africa and discover this beautiful and rich continent!

I hope you enjoyed this read

Thank you,

Z
